If you are planning on redecorating your home or office in 2022, consider donating your old furniture pieces. Fortunately, there are organizations that make for easy furniture donations.

Chances are, you will need to make room for the new furniture and someone else could really benefit from your former pieces, especially if your old furniture still has plenty of life left in it.

Whether you are curating a completely new look in your living room or bedroom, or you just need to replace your old sofa with something more stylish, donating your items to local organizations is a great idea.

Here are some options in and around the city of Portland.

Union Gospel Thrift Store (Tigard)

This organization can accept area rugs, linens, and limited household furniture that is in good condition. Furniture items are subject to store capacity, so it is a good idea to contact the organization first to see if there is space for your donation.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore (Multiple Locations)

This is a great organization that does big things for people that are becoming homeowners for the first time. There are locations around Portland, Gresham, and Southwest Washington that take furniture donations, or they can come to your home to pick it up.

Community Warehouse (Two Locations)

This is a furniture bank organization that helps connect local families in need with used furniture. There are locations in Portland and Tualatin, or you can have it scheduled for pick up at your home. They will take mattresses, lamps, end tables, armchairs and recliners, bookshelves, dressers, futons, dining chairs and tables, rugs, sectionals, sofas, and much more.

Donating your old furniture is a great way to share the love with people around the Portland community. Keep in mind, however, that most organizations do not accept donations that are broken, torn, severely worn out, have stains, or are covered with dirt or pet hair.

If you aren’t sure about specific donation requirements or donation pickup sites, visit the organization’s website or call them to determine what they can take — and where they can accept it. Remember: Some offer free pickup.

Consider contacting the Salvation Army and the Vietnam Veterans of America, too. They may have a need for items that don’t necessarily fit into a specific category, such as exercise equipment, appliances, and tools.

Also keep in mind that your donation could be tax-deductible, so get a receipt. For tax deductions, receipts are absolutely necessary when you file your taxes.

Regardless of which zip code you live in throughout the United States, there are people in need of donations (clothing, furniture, household goods, other household items, and more).

Once you have decided to donate your furniture, you can get excited about going shopping at Broadway Furniture for new items that will freshen up your space. Visit our showroom or browse our site to find inspiration for your home or office space.
